Our Story
How It Started
In 1958, when our parents got married, they set off with an old tractor and one wagon. That was the beginning of Gill & Son Haulage. Like many businesses in Teesdale back then, it started small and grew slowly through hard work and building trust with local customers.
Building the Business
Our father started it, then his brother joined, then the next generation came into the business. Over the decades, we've added trucks, equipment, and services, but the core approach hasn't changed - do good work, treat people fairly, and be there when local farms and businesses need you.
Three Generations Later
Today, we're still family-run and still based in Teesdale. We've grown from that single tractor to a fleet of trucks, modern agricultural machinery, and specialist tarmacing equipment. Around 21 people work with us now, many of them local to the area and some who've been with us for years.

Our Team
We employ around 21 people across our haulage, agricultural, and tarmacing services. Many are local to Teesdale, and several have been with us for years. Our drivers know the local roads, our agricultural operators understand upland farming, and our tarmac team handle everything from domestic driveways to airport car parks.

Quarry stone, aggregates, construction materials, spoil removal, and agricultural feed delivery. We simplify complex quarry ordering and provide reliable transport with our FARs-registered fleet.
Agricultural Contracting
Round and square baling, grass cutting, muck spreading, and drilling with VALTRA and New Holland tractors. Year-round support for Teesdale farms.
Professional Tarmacing
Domestic driveways to commercial car parks. Complete in-house service with our own equipment, trucks, and skilled team.
Winter Maintenance
Snow ploughing and gritting for Durham County Council across designated Teesdale routes since 1958.
