Winter Maintenance Services for Durham County Council
Since 1958, we've been keeping Teesdale roads clear and safe during winter weather. As contracted winter maintenance providers for Durham County Council, we handle snow ploughing and gritting across designated routes including areas around Barnard Castle, towards Allendale, and local roads in Mickleton and Cotherstone.
Our Winter Maintenance Work
Snow Ploughing
When snow arrives in Teesdale, we're out clearing designated council routes. Our tractors, fitted with Durham County Council snow ploughs, keep main roads and priority routes passable during winter weather.
Gritting Services
Preventative gritting before ice forms and reactive gritting during winter conditions. Our gritting equipment, supplied by Durham County Council, treats roads across our allocated routes.
How Our Winter Maintenance Works
Durham County Council Contract
We work exclusively for Durham County Council for winter maintenance. The council supplies the specialist equipment (snow ploughs and gritters that fit our tractors), and we provide the skilled operators and machines to use it.
Equipment Ownership
The snow ploughs on our tractors and the gritters belong to Durham County Council. Our trucks are ours, which gives us some flexibility with those, but the tractor-mounted equipment is council property used for council work.
Why We Don't Do Private Work
Because the equipment belongs to Durham County Council and they're paying for our service, we can't be seen clearing private driveways or farm tracks when we're contracted to maintain public roads. It wouldn't be right.
Call-Out System
Durham County Council manages the call-out system. When weather conditions require winter maintenance, we respond according to our contract obligations and designated routes.
